Whether you’re buying your first car or shopping around for an upgrade or a new family vehicle, buying Auto insurance that’s right for you is an important part of the process. The professional, experienced staff at Arroyo is right here to provide you with what you need. With 11 locations throughout Southern California, we can assist you in deciding and obtaining the coverage you need at a competitive price. And, because we’re independent, you can be assured we are working for you, negotiating on your behalf from the dozens of insurance companies we represent.

Inside An Auto Policy

Here’s a rundown of what Auto insurance coverages you need and the options available:

  • Liability: If you cause an automobile accident, and are found to be at fault, Liability insurance pays for the other person’s medical expenses and auto repairs. There are minimum liability limit requirements by the state, but we recommend reviewing the assets you have at risk and purchasing the amount you need based on your exposure. Depending on your risk profile, we also recommend purchasing a Personal Umbrella policy to extend the amount of Liability coverage you have in the event of a devastating loss such as an accident that involves serious injuries or a death.
  • Medical Payments: This covers your medical expenses and those of any passengers in your car at the time of an accident.
  • Uninsured/Underinsured Motorists:  If an at-fault, or liable, driver doesn’t have any or enough insurance, this coverage will pay for injury and death expenses. Coverage can also come into play if you’re involved in a hit-and-run accident.
  • Comprehensive (Other than Collision): Covers the repair or replacement of your vehicle that’s damaged from something other than an accident with another car. It also covers damage from things like vandalism, theft, or riots. Comprehensive insurance requires a deductible, which is the amount you pay out of pocket in the event of a loss.
  • Collision: Takes care of repairs when you hit another object with your car, whether that’s another vehicle or a light post, for example.  Collision coverage also requires a deductible.
  • Towing & Rental Reimbursement: Both optional coverages, you can add roadside assistance and coverage for a loaner car while your car is in the shop for repairs after an accident.

Drive for Uber, Lyft?

As more drivers use their own cars to pick up passengers for pay, it’s important to know whether you have the right coverage. The coverage offered by Uber and Lyft for their drivers varies, but basically, Liability insurance is available when the pick-up app is on and you’re waiting for a passenger to hail you via the app.

Note: Whenever the app is off, coverage is not provided by these transportation network companies. Your Personal Auto insurance may not cover you, either, if you’re in an accident while “on the job” unless you have purchased what’s called “hybrid” insurance. This will cover you in both personal and ride-hailing situations with some exceptions. We can discuss this with you in greater detail.
